Course Overview
This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a telescopic materials handler in various work environments. Training covers essential aspects of equipment operation, including:
🔹 Planning and preparing for telescopic materials handler tasks.
🔹 Conducting pre-start, start-up, and shutdown procedures.
🔹 Operating the handler safely in diverse conditions.
🔹 Selecting, fitting, and using appropriate attachments.
🔹 Relocating the machine safely between worksites.
Practical assessments must be conducted in a simulated or real workplace environment, ensuring access to the required equipment, safety procedures, and operational conditions. Simulated environments must closely replicate real workplace conditions.This unit is aligned to the Resource and Infrastructure Industry (RII) Training Package requirements and complies with the Standards for RTOs 2015/2025 and ASQA licensing assessment conditions.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for RIIHAN309F Conduct telescopic materials handler operations.
⚠️ Note: This is not a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) unit. This training supports employer obligations under WHS Regulation 2011 (Qld), section 39, to provide workers with information, training, instruction, and supervision necessary to ensure their health and safety.

Prerequisites & Entry Requirements
🔹 Minimum Age: Participants must be 16 years or older.
🔹 English Language: Participants must complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to ensure they can meet course requirements. We offer LLN assistance, learning support, and referrals to other services. Speak with our team before enrolment if you require additional assistance.
🔹 Physical Fitness: A reasonable level of fitness is required for the practical components.
🔹 Identification: Valid photo ID (e.g. Driver Licence or Passport)
🔹 USI Requirement: Participants must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to enrol. Visit www.usi.gov.au for more info.
🔹 PPE: Participants must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including high-visibility shirt or vest, and closed in shoes. Training will be conducted using an industry-standard telescopic materials handler, relevant attachments, and compliant PPE. Corrsafe can supply PPE (hi-vis and steel-cap boots) if required.
📋 Note: All participants complete a brief Learner Suitability Self-Assessment at the start of the course to confirm their readiness and identify any support needs.
Course Duration
A typical telehandler course is delivered within 1 day.
This course involves a total of 10–12 hours of combined learning:
🔹 Supervised training & assessment: Approximately 8 hours face-to-face practical and theory delivery.
🔹 Unsupervised study/pre-course learning: Approximately 2–4 hours of online or self-paced study, including review of learning materials and completion of quizzes.
The actual duration may vary depending on the participant’s existing skills, experience, and chosen delivery method. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may reduce the total volume of learning where sufficient, valid, current, and authentic evidence is provided.

Assessment Methods
Assessment includes:
📖 Theory Assessment: Multiple-choice and short-answer questions.
📖 Practical Demonstration: Hands-on application of telescopic materials handler operations.
📖 Workplace-based Assessment: Where applicable, assessments must be conducted under appropriate supervision with a documented risk assessment to ensure safety procedures align with site-specific hazards. All workplace-based assessments must provide documented evidence that meets ASQA’s Rules of Evidence: validity, sufficiency, authenticity, and currency.
Assessment tools are validated regularly as part of Corrsafe’s assessment validation schedule in accordance with the Standards for RTOs 2025.
Certificate & Outcome
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for RIIHAN309F Conduct telescopic materials handler operations, issued by Corrsafe RTO 40621.
Industry standards recommend refresher training every five years to maintain competency, as per the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (QLD) and the Managing Risks of Plant in the Workplace Code of Practice 2021. Employers are responsible for ensuring workers maintain competency and meet WHS obligations.
Employers must assess operator competency on an ongoing basis and ensure refresher training is completed when necessary to comply with WHSQ regulations. Employers must provide refresher training when competency concerns arise, workplace incidents reveal a skills gap, or updates in equipment, procedures, or legislation impact safe operation. Employers who fail to provide necessary refresher training may be found non-compliant with WHSQ regulations, which could lead to penalties or enforcement actions.

This course is eligible for Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding under the 2025–2026 Short Course Program. CSQ provides financial support to help upskill Queensland’s building and civil construction workforce.
CSQ Subsidy available: $600.00
Student Contribution: $300.00
(includes $250.00 CSQ-mandated co-contribution fee + $50.00 non-funded administration fee)
Applicants must receive written confirmation of CSQ funding approval before commencing training, as retrospective claims are not permitted. Funding is subject to eligibility and availability.
