The CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry course provides participants with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to work safely in construction environments.
This course aligns with CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry from the CPC Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. Participants will gain essential safety knowledge to meet Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws, Australian Standards, and industry best practices.
Successful completion of this course is a mandatory requirement for obtaining a White Card, which is required for anyone carrying out construction work in Queensland. This training aligns with the national unit of competency requirements for CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry and complies with Queensland-specific White Card regulations as enforced by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ).
This course is designed to comply with the Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations, ensuring participants meet the required competency standards for working safely in construction environments. Corrsafe is an approved provider for White Card training in Queensland, as required by WHSQ.

This course is suitable for individuals who:

✔️ Are new to the construction industry, including apprentices, trainees, and labourers.
✔️ Work as supervisors or site managers and are responsible for workplace safety.
✔️ Need to improve their understanding of construction site safety standards.
What You’ll Learn
The course covers the following key areas:
✅ Identifying construction hazards and implementing appropriate control measures.
✅ Understanding Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws, regulations, and responsibilities.
✅ Correct selection, use, and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
✅ Recognising and responding to workplace emergencies, including fire and first aid procedures.
✅ Understanding safe work practices, including working at heights, manual handling, and hazardous materials.
✅ Effective communication of safety procedures, including signage, reporting, and compliance requirements.
Prerequisites & Entry Requirements
🔹 Minimum Age: Students may undertake the training prior to turning 18; however, they cannot apply for their HRWL until they are 18 years of age.
🔹 English Language: Participants must complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to ensure they can meet course requirements. We offer LLN assistance, learning support, and referrals to other services. Speak with our team before enrolment if you require additional assistance.
🔹 Physical Fitness: A reasonable level of fitness is required for the practical components.
🔹 Identification: 100 points of original, valid photo ID (e.g. Driver Licence, Passport, Medicare card, Financial Institution card)
🔹 USI Requirement: All participants must supply a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) at enrolment. Visit www.usi.gov.au to create or retrieve your USI.
🔹 PPE: Participants must arrive wearing appropriate PPE including a high-vis shirt or vest, closed-in shoes, and any other site-specific safety gear if required.
📋 All students complete a Learner Suitability Self-Assessment on day one.
⚠️ Important: WHSQ may require sighting of address-linked documents (e.g., utility bills) prior to issuing the White Card. Participants should check the latest ID requirements by visiting Workplace Health and Safety Queensland’s website or contacting them directly at 1300 362 128.
Course Duration
This course duration is 6 – 7 hours (depending on learner pathway and prior experience).
Course Delivery Methods
📖 Face-to-Face Training with No Pre-learning: Conducted at our Corrsafe Training Facility or on-site at your workplace (conditions apply).
⚠️ Online training is NOT available for this course due to regulatory requirements in Queensland.
Training and assessment are conducted by WHSQ-approved assessors using the National Assessment Instrument (NAI).
Assessment Methods
Assessment includes:
📖 Theory Assessment: Multiple-choice and short-answer questions.
🛠 Practical Demonstration: Hands-on application of safety procedures and PPE use.
All assessments are conducted under the direct supervision of qualified assessors, in accordance with WHSQ and ASQA requirements.
Corrsafe uses the General Construction Induction Training (GCIT) Assessment Tool in full, as mandated by WHSQ. This includes four mandatory assessment tasks covering knowledge and practical application.
Certificate & Outcome
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry, issued by Corrsafe RTO 40621.
As Corrsafe is an approved provider in Queensland, successful participants will be issued a Queensland White Card directly upon course completion, subject to meeting all assessment and ID requirements.
⚠️ Important: Queensland White Cards must be obtained through face-to-face training, as per WHSQ requirements.
