Course Overview
The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to provide a first aid response in a variety of situations, including workplaces, community settings, and at home.
This course aligns with the Model Code of Practice: First Aid in the Workplace, issued by Safe Work Australia, ensuring compliance with WHS legislation and industry best practices. The Safe Work Australia First Aid Code of Practice outlines employer responsibilities for workplace first aid training, equipment, procedures, and risk assessments to determine adequate first aid resources and response times. Participants will develop the ability to assess, respond, and manage first aid incidents confidently and effectively.

What You’ll Learn
The course covers the following key areas:
✅ Performing CPR on adults, children, and infants, including AED (automated external defibrillator) use
✅ Assessing and managing unconscious casualties (breathing and non-breathing)
✅ Recognising and responding to medical conditions, such as heart attack, stroke, asthma, and anaphylaxis
✅ Providing treatment for injuries, including bleeding, burns, fractures, and envenomation
✅ Infection control procedures and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
✅ Communicating and reporting first aid incidents in line with workplace procedures
Prerequisites & Entry Requirements
🔹 Minimum Age: Participants must be 13 years of age or older🔹 English & Numeracy: Basic English and numeracy skills required
🔹 Physical Ability: Participants must be able to perform CPR on the floor as part of practical assessments
🔹 Identification: 100 points of valid photo ID (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, Medicare card)
Course Duration
📆 Full Course: 1 day (8 hours), including theory and practical assessments📆 CPR Refresher (HLTAID009): Annual renewal required for workplace compliance
Course Delivery Methods
📖 Online Theory & Practical Training: Participants complete the theory component online before attending a scheduled face-to-face practical assessment
📖 Face-to-Face Training: Conducted at our training centre or on-site at your workplace
📖 Workplace Training: Customised on-site delivery to meet specific industry requirements
Note: The practical assessment must be completed in person to meet ASQA and WHSQ compliance requirements.
Assessment Methods
Assessment includes:
📖 Online Theory Assessment: Multiple-choice and short-answer questions
🛠 Face-to-Face Practical Demonstration: Hands-on CPR and first aid techniques
📖 Workplace-Based Assessment: Where applicable, practical assessments may be conducted on-site, provided the workplace has suitable first aid facilities, approved equipment, and employer consent. Workplace-based assessments must meet ASQA requirements by ensuring access to appropriate first aid equipment, a safe training space, and a real or simulated work environment that reflects industry standards.
Certificate & Outcome
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for:
🏆 HLTAID011 Provide First Aid – valid for 3 years
🏆 HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – must be renewed annually
Statements of Attainment are issued in accordance with the Standards for RTOs 2015 and ASQA requirements.
This qualification is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and aligns with industry best practices.
Industry Standards: It is recommended that first aid training is refreshed every three years, and CPR training is updated annually in accordance with WHS legislation and ARC guidelines.

Funding
This course may be eligible for CSQ funding, which provides a subsidy of $108.00.
Eligibility criteria:
✔️ CSQ funding is available to participants currently employed in a construction-related role as defined by CSQ’s eligibility criteria.
✔️ Must hold evidence of working in a construction industry. (e.g., White Card, Blue Card, SOA, QBCC Card, Work Card, Invoice, etc)
✔️ CSQ funding cannot be applied retrospectively.
✔️ Funding availability is subject to CSQ guidelines and may change.
