Course Overview
This course aligns with UETDREL006 from the UET Transmission, Distribution and Rail Sector Training Package. Participants will develop the skills and knowledge required to work safely near live electrical apparatus, without undertaking electrical work, in accordance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, Electrical Safety Acts, and Australian Standards.
While there are no formal licensing requirements at the national level, this unit is commonly required by electrical supply authorities, distribution network service providers (DNSPs), and principal contractors to authorise non-electrical workers to work near live electrical apparatus. Always confirm site-specific requirements with your employer or network operator.
All assessments are mapped to the unit’s elements, performance criteria, foundation skills, performance evidence, and knowledge evidence, ensuring compliance with the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence.

Prerequisites & Entry Requirements
🔹 Minimum Age: Participants must be at least 16 years of age
🔹 English Language: Participants must complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to ensure they can meet course requirements. We offer LLN assistance, learning support, and referrals to other services. Speak with our team before enrolment if you require additional assistance.
🔹 Identification: Valid photo ID, please refer to page 9 of Evidence of Identity document.
🔹 USI Requirement: Participants must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to enrol. Visit www.usi.gov.au for more info. Corrsafe verifies each USI with the Registrar prior to its use, in accordance with the Student Identifiers Act.
🔹 PPE: Participants must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including closed footwear appropriate for a training environment.
📋 Note: All participants complete a brief Learner Suitability Self-Assessment at the start of the course to confirm their readiness and identify any support needs. This unit requires foundation skills at approximately ACSF Level 2 for reading and writing, and Level 1–2 for oral communication.
Course Duration
A typical Electrical Apparatus course is delivered in 1 day.
This course involves approximately 40–45 hours of combined learning, including supervised training and assessment, online or pre-course study, and independent review. Duration may vary depending on your experience and chosen delivery method.

🔹 Supervised training & assessment: 16–28 hours
🔹 Unsupervised study & pre-learning: 8–12 hours
Course Delivery Methods
📖 Face-to-Face Training: Delivered at Corrsafe’s training centre or your workplace (subject to conditions)
📖 Workplace Training: Customised on-site delivery available for groups
📖 Online Training (Fully Self-Paced)
This course is delivered entirely online with no requirement to attend a face-to-face practical session. Participants will:
🔹Access all learning materials via Corrsafe’s secure online learning platform (LMS)
🔹Complete all assessments remotely, including written theory questions and scenario-based safety tasks
🔹 Submit all work electronically for marking by a qualified assessor
All assessment tasks are mapped to the unit’s elements, performance criteria, foundation skills, performance evidence, and knowledge evidence, ensuring full compliance with ASQA’s Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence.
Learners must have access to a reliable internet connection, a device capable of accessing the LMS, and basic digital literacy skills. Support is available for learners who require assistance using the online platform.

🎓 Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
If you already have experience working safely near live electrical apparatus, you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This process assesses your existing knowledge and skills against the requirements of UETDREL006 – Work Safely in the Vicinity of Live Electrical Apparatus as a Non-Electrical Worker.
To be considered for RPL, you’ll need to provide sufficient, valid, and current evidence, which may include:
📁 A portfolio of relevant work experience (e.g., roles requiring compliance with safe approach distances or work near electrical infrastructure)
✅ Employer or supervisor third-party verification statements
🎓 Previous accredited Statements of Attainment or training transcripts
🛠️ A practical demonstration of your skills, showing correct PPE use, hazard identification, and safe work practices near live electrical apparatus
🗣️ Responses to oral questions or interviews with an assessor
⚠️ Important: While there are no formal national licensing requirements for this unit, it is often mandated by electrical supply authorities, DNSPs, or principal contractors for site access. Always check your workplace or network operator’s specific requirements.
If gaps are identified during the RPL process, we’ll provide gap training and assessment to support your path to full competency. All RPL evidence is mapped against the unit’s elements, performance criteria, performance evidence, and knowledge evidence to ensure full competency before recognition is granted.
