Course Overview

This course aligns with RIIHAN301E – Operate Elevating Work Platform from the RII Resources & Infrastructure Training Package. Participants develop the knowledge and practical skills to safely operate scissor lifts, vertical lifts, and boom-type EWPs under 11 metres, in accordance with WHS legislation, Australian Standards, manufacturer specs, and site procedures. Training is contextualised to real-world tasks across construction, resources, and infrastructure workplaces.

🛠️ Training is delivered directly by Corrsafe Enterprises Pty Ltd (RTO 40621). No third-party providers are used.

Training and assessment are conducted in compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld), relevant Codes of Practice, and all applicable Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation.

The Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) logo is used in accordance with the NRT Logo Conditions of Use Policy. The NRT logo applies only to the nationally recognised unit RIIHAN301E.

Note: This unit is not a high-risk licence. Boom EWPs ≥11m require separate HRWL training (TLILIC0005).

What You’ll Learn

🔍 Pre-start, operational and shutdown checks for EWP
🚧 Safe set-up: work zone, barricading, cones, signage, exclusion zones
⚠️ Hazard ID & risk control (falls, crush, electrocution, stability, ground conditions)
🧠 Manufacturer specs, load/platform limits, emergency lowering & controls
📢 Communication with spotters/signallers and team coordination
📋 Compliance with WHS duties, site procedures, SWMS and plant safety

Prerequisites & Entry Requirements

🔹 Minimum AgeParticipants must be 16 years or older.

🔹 English Language: Participants must complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to ensure they can meet course requirements. We offer LLN assistance, learning support, and referrals to other services. Speak with our team before enrolment if you require additional assistance.
🔹 Physical Fitness: A reasonable level of fitness is required for the practical components.
🔹 Identification: Valid photo ID, please refer to page 9 of Evidence of Identity document.
🔹 USI RequirementParticipants must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to enrol. Visit www.usi.gov.au for more info. Corrsafe verifies each USI with the Registrar prior to use, in accordance with the Student Identifiers Act.
🔹 PPE: Participants must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including high-visibility shirt or vest, and closed in shoes. Training will be conducted using industry-standard elevating work platforms (scissor/vertical/boom <11m) and compliant PPE.

📋 Note: All participants complete a brief Learner Suitability Self-Assessment at the start of the course to confirm their readiness and identify any support needs.

Course Duration

The Elevating Work Platform Course is typically delivered in 1 day.

Total Volume of Learning: typically 20–30 hours

Supervised learning & assessment:

🔹8–12 hours (face-to-face theory + practical training)

🔹4–6 hours (supervised practical assessment + knowledge assessment)

Unsupervised learning:

🔹2–4 hours pre-course reading/online learning

🔹2–4 hours independent study, workplace familiarisation, logbooks, or revision

Assessment Methods

📖 Knowledge Assessment: Written and/or online questions on EWP operation, safety and WHS.
🛠 Practical Observation Checklist: Direct observation operating an EWP to unit standards.
📑 Third-Party Report (if applicable): Verified workplace evidence supporting competence.
All tools are mapped to the unit and meet Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence. All assessment activities are supervised.

Certificate & Outcome

On successful completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment – RIIHAN301E Operate Elevating Work Platform, issued by Corrsafe RTO 40621.

🔹 The Statement of Attainment is nationally recognised and issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
🔹 Certification is issued in accordance with the Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) Logo Conditions of Use.
🔹 This unit does not result in a High Risk Work Licence. Boom-type EWPs ≥11m require TLILIC0005.

This course is eligible for Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding under the 2025–2026 Short Course Program. CSQ provides financial support to help upskill Queensland’s building and civil construction workforce.

CSQ Subsidy available: $300.00

Student Contribution: $350.00
(includes $300.00 CSQ-mandated co-contribution fee + $50.00 non-funded administration fee)

Applicants must receive written confirmation of CSQ funding approval before commencing training, as retrospective claims are not permitted. Funding is subject to eligibility and availability. CSQ does not permit retrospective funding applications.

Corrsafe Enterprises Pty Ltd does not accept prepaid fees exceeding $1500 per learner prior to delivery. All fee management complies with Clause 18 of the Compliance Standards 2025.

🎓 Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)


If you already have experience operating elevating work platforms (EWPs) under 11 metres, you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This process assesses your existing knowledge and skills against the requirements of the unit RIIHAN301E – Operate Elevating Work Platform.

To be considered for RPL, you’ll need to provide sufficient, valid, and current evidence, which may include:

📁 A portfolio of relevant work experience
✅ Employer or supervisor third-party verification statements (we can provide a template)
🎓 Previous accredited Statements of Attainment or training transcripts (USI Transcript)
🛠️ A practical demonstration of your skills
🗣️ Responses to oral questions or interviews with an assessor

⚠️ Important: This unit is not a high-risk licence course. However, all candidates must still meet the full assessment requirements of RIIHAN301E to be awarded a Statement of Attainment.

If gaps are identified during the RPL process, we’ll offer gap training and assessment to support your path to full competency.
