Course Duration & Volume of Learning

This course is typically delivered in 1 day.

Volume of Learning: ~13–19 hours, including:

🔹 6–8 hrs supervised instruction (theory & practical).

🔹 3–5 hrs pre-course/online learning (legislation, gas testing procedures).

🔹 2–3 hrs independent study (equipment familiarisation, safety procedures).

🔹 2–3 hours supervised assessment (written and practical demonstration)

Delivery Options

🏫 Face-to-Face – Theory and practical delivered at Corrsafe’s facility or onsite at your workplace.
Learners who complete the pre-learning attend a shorter, practical-focused session using gas detectors and atmospheric monitoring equipment. All others complete full theory and practical on site.

🏗️ Workplace Delivery – On-site training contextualised to your plant, equipment, atmospheric hazards, and site procedures.

🌐 Online + Practical – Complete the online theory (4–8 hrs), then attend the practical session to demonstrate gas testing, equipment checks, bump testing, calibration confirmation, and interpreting atmospheric readings.
A short Challenge Test is completed at the start of the practical to verify readiness. Learners who don’t meet the requirement are rescheduled and supported to reattempt. The Challenge Test is diagnostic only and not part of formal assessment.

🔄 Refresher – Online theory only (4–8 hrs).
Evidence of recent, relevant gas testing competency must be provided prior to enrolment (e.g., permits, gas test records, employer verification, photos/videos of equipment use). This ensures refresher training is valid and meets industry expectations.

📜 RPL – Provide evidence of prior competency in gas testing; gap training available where evidence is insufficient.

Assessment Methods

Assessment follows the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence, ensuring fairness, flexibility, validity, and reliability.

Learners complete:

🔹 Theory Assessment: Multiple-choice and short-answer questions on gas properties, testing procedures, and WHS requirements.
