WHSQHSRNCB01 – Health & Safety Representative Queensland

Application

The 5-day course for Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) equips participants with the essential knowledge and skills to perform their duties as HSRs in Queensland. In Queensland, it is compulsory for HSRs to complete the 5-day training course approved by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland within three months of being elected.
Failure to complete the training within this timeframe results in ineligibility to continue as an HSR, necessitating their replacement. With over 25 years of experience, Corrsafe is a prominent provider of workplace health and safety training in Queensland, including the HSR training program.
We conduct this program in Bowen and onsite, emphasising interactive and effective training methods.

Course Overview

The role of the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) is primarily to liaise with other staff to identify health and safety issues and convey these to management. HSRs are elected by fellow staff to represent the views of the staff group.
Health and Safety Representative training is delivered over 5 days and course topics include:

1. Overview of the WHS legislative framework.
2. Duties of various parties.
3. Key WHS terminology.
4. The role of WHSQ and penalties for non‐compliance.
5. Requirements and mechanisms for consultation in the workplace on work health and safety issues.
6. The role, entitlements and protections available for HSRs and Health and Safety Committees (HSCs).
7. Resolving workplace health and safety issues through negotiation and conflict resolution.
8. Identifying hazards and ways in which they can be eliminated or minimised.
9. Incident notification and investigation.
10. Issuing Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and directing unsafe work to cease.
