The RIIMPO318F Conduct Civil Construction Skid Steer Loader Operations unit provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to operate a skid steer loader safely and efficiently in civil construction, earthmoving, mining, landscaping, and infrastructure environments.

This course covers pre-operational checks, hazard identification, safe operation techniques, lifting and moving materials, backfilling, loading trucks, and shutdown procedures. What You’ll Learn

✅ Conduct pre-starts, inspections, and routine machine checks
✅ Identify site hazards and apply risk control measures
✅ Operate a skid steer loader safely to complete tasks such as: loading and unloading, dozing, levelling, trenching, spreading material, stockpiling and backfilling
✅ Use different attachments such as buckets, forks, and spreaders
✅ Follow traffic management requirements and exclusion zones
✅ Maintain communication with spotters and other workers
✅ Shut down and secure machinery according to workplace and manufacturer procedures

Prerequisites & Entry Requirements

🔹 Minimum Age:  Participant must be at least 16 years of age.

🔹 English Language: Participants must complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to ensure they can meet course requirements. We offer LLN assistance, learning support, and referrals to other services. Speak with our team before enrolment if you require additional assistance.
🔹 Physical Fitness: A reasonable level of fitness is required for the practical components.
🔹 Identification: Valid photo ID, please refer to page 9 of Evidence of Identity document.
🔹 USI Requirement: Participants must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to enrol. Visit www.usi.gov.au for more info. Corrsafe verifies each USI with the Registrar prior to use, in accordance with the Student Identifiers Act.
🔹 PPE: Participants must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including high-visibility shirt or vest, and closed in shoes. Training will be conducted using an industry-standard telescopic materials handler, relevant attachments, and compliant PPE. Corrsafe can supply PPE (hi-vis and steel-cap boots) if required.

📋 Note: All participants complete a brief Learner Suitability Self-Assessment at the start of the course to confirm their readiness and identify any support needs.

Course Duration & Volume of Learning

A typical skid steer loader course is delivered over:

1 day for experienced operators
1–2 days for new or inexperienced learners

Approximate Volume of Learning:

Supervised Training & Assessment: 8–12 hours
Unsupervised / Pre-course Study: 2–4 hours
Total Volume of Learning: 10–16 hours

Duration varies depending on experience and delivery pathway.

Written and/or online theory questions covering WHS, operational requirements, and hazard control.

🛠 Practical Demonstration

Safely operating a skid steer loader to complete required tasks
Using attachments appropriately
Managing workplace risks and following communication protocols

📄 Workplace Documentation
Completion of SWMS, risk assessments, or operational logs (as applicable)

All assessments meet the Principles of Assessment, Rules of Evidence, and the RIIMPO318F unit requirements.

Certificate & Outcome

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a:
