WHAT IS A VEHICLE LOADING CRANE?

A Vehicle Loading Crane is a mobile crane mounted on a vehicle. They are used for both loading and unloading

There are two main types of Vehicle Loading Cranes:

  • Cranes with less than 10 metre tonne capacity.
  • Cranes with 10 metre tonne capacity or more.

To operate a Vehicle Loading Crane with a capacity of 10 metre tonnes or more a licence to perform High Risk Work (LHRW) is needed.

Vehicle Loading Cranes may also be operated by persons holding a SLEWING MOBILE CRANE OPERATION CERTIFICATE or equivalent.

DO I NEED A VEHICLE LOADING CRANE LICENCE?

YES IF

Radius (Metres) x Safe Work Limit (Tonnes) ≥ 10 Meter / Tonnes

For example: RADIUS 5 METRES & SAFE WORK LIMIT 2 TONNES

5 Metres x 2 Tonnes = 10 Metre / Tonnes

As this is equal to 10 meter / tonnes you must have a High Risk Work Licence.

NOTE: Vehicle Loading Cranes with a capacity of less than 10 metre tonnes do not require a certificate to operate, however, you do need competency based training and proof of competency.
