Course Overview

The RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces course equips participants with the essential skills and knowledge to safely enter, work in, and exit confined spaces in accordance with workplace procedures and legislative requirements.

This course aligns with RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces from the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package. Participants will learn to identify hazards, implement control measures, use appropriate equipment, and respond to emergencies while working in confined spaces. The training ensures compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, Australian Standards, and industry best practices.
Participants will be assessed against the unit of competency RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces, as outlined in the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) are available for those with relevant skills, experience, or previously attained qualifications. Credit Transfer (CT) is only available for units that are equivalent as per the RII Training Package mapping.

✅ Understanding confined space rescue procedures, including emergency response plans, communication methods, and recovery techniques.
✅ Selecting, inspecting, and correctly using personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear.
✅ Conducting atmospheric testing and monitoring air quality.
✅ Implementing safe entry, work, and exit procedures, including permits and isolations.
✅ Responding to workplace emergencies, including confined space rescues.
✅ Applying effective communication procedures for safe work in confined spaces, including signalling and emergency response communication.

Prerequisites & Entry Requirements

🔹 Minimum Age: Participants must be at least 13 years old.
🔹 Language & Literacy: Basic English literacy and numeracy skills required to read safety signs, complete assessments, and follow instructions.
🔹 Identification100 points of valid photo ID (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, Medicare card, financial institution card). Special conditions apply for secondary school students.

Course Duration

📆 Full Course: 6 hours (including theory and practical components).
📆 Refresher Course: Typically 4–6 hours, depending on prior experience and industry requirements.
📆 RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning): Assessment time may vary based on evidence provided.

Assessment Methods

Assessment includes:
📖 Theory Assessment: Multiple-choice and short-answer questions.
📖 Practical Demonstration: Hands-on application of confined space procedures. Practical assessments will be conducted in a simulated or workplace environment that meets the conditions outlined in the RIIWHS202E unit of competency.
📖 Workplace-Based Assessment: Where applicable, assessments can be conducted on-site.
Assessments are conducted in accordance with the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence as required by the Standards for RTOs 2015.

Certificate & Outcome

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces, issued by Corrsafe RTO 40621. This qualification is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Industry best practices recommend refresher training every two years, in line with the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (QLD) and the Confined Spaces Code of Practice 2021 (QLD). However, specific workplace policies may require more frequent refreshers.

Funding

You may be eligible to receive CSQ funding for this course if you work in the building & construction industry in Queensland.
Funding is subject to CSQ eligibility criteria and available allocations at the time of enrolment. CSQ funding cannot be applied retrospectively. Check with Corrsafe for the latest funding availability.
CSQ funding is subject to approval before training commencement and cannot be reimbursed post-training.

✔️ Funding Amount: Eligible participants receive $300.00 towards the course cost.
✔️ Eligibility Criteria: Participants must be currently employed in the construction industry or actively participating in the workforce.
✔️ Must hold evidence of working in a construction industry. (e.g., White Card, Blue Card, SOA, QBCC Card, Work Card, Invoice, etc)
✔️ Funding cannot be applied retrospectively.
✔️ Availability is subject to CSQ guidelines and may change.
